Are you dreaming of an exotic spa experience in 2022? Or maybe you’ve got your eye set on a beach escape somewhere light and bright? Or our personal favourite, a European adventure visiting the famous bathhouses of Italy, Budapest, or Turkey…
With overseas travel still uncertain, we’re seeing many of our clients looking for ways to bring those international experiences in-house (or in-home if you will!), using travel budgets to renovate their bathrooms. We’re seeing some truly beautiful, creative, and modern design trends emerging – both from homeowners and from our suppliers – with recent renovation projects taking on a ‘holiday at home’ aspect like we’ve never seen before.
If you’ve been thinking about a bathroom refresh for 2022 then some of the trending styles below might be the inspiration you’ve been looking for.
Concrete Basins and Bathtubs
Seeing a spike in popularity towards the end 2021, the industrial edge aesthetic is bound to find itself woven into many modern home designs in 2022. Concrete basins and bathtubs in particular add an element of sophistication to any space, taking advantage of the cold, rough material to create a sleek style and bold finish if juxtaposed against a colourful feature.
Feature Tiles
Another trend for 2022 is the focus on feature tiles. Geometric designs and trendy patterns will be on the rise, creating a unified space by giving attention to each element within the bathroom. Other popular tile choices will include a move to more earthy features such as wood texture tiles, with timeless designs like subway and chevron consistently making their way to the top of the trend list just as they did in 2021. We’re loving the vibrant use of colour that many of our clients are choosing to go with on recent projects, and we’re looking forward to seeing this trend carry through into the new year.
Luxury Spa Inspired Experience
With Australians looking for an exotic escape within their own home, the desire to recreate the luxury spa experience will have a heavy influence on future designs. People are looking beyond functionality to create a more opulent aesthetic, meaning bigger bathtubs, more mood lighting, and an emphasis on grand features and lavish layouts. In 2022 the bathroom will transform to a relaxing environment that entices you to stay a while longer, offering so much more than the conventional bathroom. See our design ideas for how to accomplish this luxurious look.
Minimalism
Minimalism is key in modern design. Spaces that use this technique celebrate simplicity, making the most out of an area by including only the necessary items to fill it. This clean-cut, sleek style takes advantage of lines, layout, and bold features to direct your focus. Industrial designs shine in minimalist-inspired spaces, with pieces like standalone baths, signature light fixtures, and brass tapware sure to amplify interior design in 2022.
In-wall Toilets
For those tight for space, the in-wall toilet is becoming a highly sought-after solution in bathroom design. Reimagining the bulky, traditional toilet, the in-wall suite offers a sleek, urban aesthetic to transform your bathroom, feeding into the move toward minimalism. The tasteful take on the overlooked utility is perfect for smaller bathrooms, moving the toilet tank into the wall to open the space and make it more inviting.
Timber
To add a touch of warmth to the room, designers are incorporating timber and wood-inspired features and textures into bathroom design. While some idealise the industrial aesthetic, others opt for a more organic feel, with the traces of timber trading sleek and modern vibes for something more natural and welcoming. This can be achieved with timber accessories or benchtops, as well as wooden splash backs to bring the bathroom back to nature.
Open Space
The last trend we see infiltrating all aspects of design is the ever-popular concept of open space. In the bathroom, what we are seeing is a breakdown of barriers from the bath to the shower, with minimal use of glass partitions, if any at all. Other ways we have seen this idea being realised is in limiting the division between inside/outside, and from the bathroom and other rooms in the house (such as the master bedroom).
