Bathroom Renovation FAQs

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

As always, it varies depending on the project and any delays on products. However, we usually give a ballpark of around 3 weeks from start to handover.

Do you supply the fixtures and hardware?

No, our quote will only include the labour and renovation costs. You will be responsible for purchasing all of the fixtures including the vanity, shower and toilet as well as tiles, tapware and other elements.

Once we have decided on the design together, we provide you with a shopping list to take to our suppliers, so you know you’re purchasing the right products. They will help you pick out all of the required bathroom elements and will know exactly what quantity of tiles you need; how big the bath can be and other specifications.

They will also help you arrange delivery of all bathroom elements so that they are on-site and ready to go when we need them throughout the project.

Do you do partial bathroom renovations?

No, we only do complete bathroom renovations to ensure consistency with the result.

Do you renovate powder rooms or ensuites?

Yes, we do powder room renovations and ensuite renovations. It is financially beneficial to do all of your bathroom renovations at the same time, however if it is more convenient for you to stagger them then we are happy to do that as well.

How long will I be without a functional bathroom for?

Most bathroom renovation projects take three weeks to complete. Your bathroom will be off limits until the project is complete for OH&S reasons. If you do not have a second bathroom that you can use during this time, then we can help you book a portable bathroom solution that includes a shower and a toilet.

Is a tiled floor included in your bathroom renovations?

Yes it can be. If there is nothing wrong with your existing tiled flooring then we don’t need to replace it, but if you would like new floor tiles for your bathroom included in your renovation project then that is definitely something we can look after for you.

What is the best bathroom design?

The best bathroom design is your design! At Flat Hill we work with our clients to incorporate all of their design ideas into their bathroom renovation. We have a dedicated bathroom design consultant who can help guide you with design ideas, layout options, colour pallet suggestions and more to ensure that your new dream bathroom is absolutely stunning!

Are white bathrooms hard to keep clean?

We don’t think that white bathrooms are any more difficult to keep clean than any other option. When we complete your Brisbane bathroom renovation project, we will provide you with a hand-over kit that includes some helpful tips and information for keeping your new white bathroom sparkling clean while maintaining your fixtures to extend their lifespan.

What colour goes with white tiles?

Every colour! White tiles are a great base to start with because they go with *literally* everything! Whether you want a beachy vibe with some blue and yellow striped towels, or to keep it cool with some navy candles, or add a touch of the living with some indoor plants, white tiles are timeless and work with every design trend.

How can I fix a tiny bathroom?

There are a number of different ways that you can ‘fix’ a tiny bathroom. If knocking down walls to increase the space isn’t an option then we suggest checking out our blog article ‘Maximise Space in Your Small Bathroom‘, were we cover some design and fixture tips to help you make the most of the space you do have.

What are some modern bathroom trends?

A lot of modern bathroom designs use light neutral colours for tiling and paint paired with darker neutrals for fixtures and trimmings. Think light grey wall tiles, with a wall-mounted mirror framed in matte black. Semi-framed showers with black shower heads and tap fixtures. The light neutrals keep the space feeling open, airy and spacious and allow you to decorate with towels, candles, plants and other accessories to add pops of colour.

Do you renovate the master bathroom as well?

Yes, we renovate ensuites and master bathrooms. It is financially beneficial to renovate both your main/family bathroom and any additional ensuites, powder rooms etc at the same time, but it is not a necessity.

Do you supply the bathroom vanity and other fixtures?

No we don’t, but we will help you select one to suit your design as well as connect you with some reputable suppliers. Allowing our clients to source their own fixtures allows you to have total control over the budget of your renovation project and provides transparency in our pricing. You know that we aren’t taking a ‘cut’ of the fixture prices and you have the option to shop around without feeling obligated or pressured to go with our ‘preferred suppliers’.

What if I have water damage in my bathroom?

Think you might have water damage in your bathroom, kitchen or laundry? Left un-repaired, over time it can lead to structural and health issues!

Some signs of water damage can include:

  •  brown staining on the walls
  •  dampness within the room
  •  musty smell
  •  spongy when touched
  •  bubbling or peeling paint

If you think you might have a leak or water damage, give us a call and we can come investigate further.

What can you do with a window that offers little privacy?

You have an existing window that you want to keep but it is clear and has no privacy – No problem, we can get Shaun from Obey Signs in to work his magic and apply a frosting film to create more privacy without sacrificing your natural light.

Can you install windows in a new location?

More often than not – yes! Sometimes it depends on structural checks, but we can work this out with you and have it installed in the best location depending on the design of the room.

Sometimes often overlooked, windows can be used to create a feature or just made bigger to open up and create a light filled room. Whatever your needs are, we work with you to bring it together.

Can we install new windows?

Yes absolutely! We use Bradnam’s Windows & Doors as our supplier and can remove your old window and replace it with a new one.
